Royal Crown Derby |
|
Royal Crown Derby began around 1750 when Andrew Planche established the first china works in Derby. His exquisite figures attracted William Duesbury, and together they took Royal Crown Derby forward to create one of the most successful china companies in Britain. In 1786 William Duesbury II took over the company and great developments were made in body, glaze, potting and decoration. Around this time Royal Crown Derby also benefited from what is said to be the finest group of ceramic artists ever assembled. In the early 18th century, Royal Crown Derby produced larger and more flamboyant patterns, including the ‘Japan’ and ‘Imari’ patterns, which are still manufactured and as popular today. Royal Crown Derby began producing Paperweight collections in 1981, and these figures have become some of the most important in the world on collecting. Today, rich colours and intricate gilding remain the distinguishing features of Royal Crown Derby tableware, collectibles and giftware. China Chaps now sell all current Royal Crown Derby ranges in our Snodland store.
