Wedgwood is one of the leading manufacturers of ceramics in the U.K. It was founded in 1759 by Josiah Wedgwood. During his lifetime he invented and produced what remain today three of Wedgwood's most famous ceramic bodies - Queen's Ware (1762), Black Basalt (1768) and finally Jasper (1774). During the 19th century, many changes were happening within the pottery industry, and most important of these to Wedgwood was the introduction of bone china. Wedgwood’s bone china tableware graced the tables of many illustrious homes, including The White House, where an entire dinner service was ordered by President Theodore Roosevelt. Today, Wedgwood manufacture classic and contemporary tableware at their factory noear Stoke-on-Trent, including successful collaborations with designers Jasper Conran and Vera Wang.
