Royal Worcester was founded in the mid 1700’s when physician John Wall and apothecary William Davies began experimenting with processes and materials in order to create a porcelain recipe. After their success, they were funded by local businessmen, and in 1751 opened the first Worcester porcelain factory. The company became known as Royal Worcester after being appointed two Royal Warrants in the mid 19th century. Royal Worcester manufactured extremely high quality ware, and rapidly the brand became synonymous with high end porcelain pieces, and successfully produced prestigious products for the upper classes. One of Royal Worcester’s best known patterns is the ‘Evesham’ pattern which was first designed in 1961. It was introduced by Royal Worcester as a response to the beginning of a new trend for more informal dining, and is still in production today.
