Iittala was founded in 1881, when a glass factory was founded by Swede Petrus Magnus Abrahamsson in the small fishing village of Iittala, Finland. Iittala first produced mainly glass bottles for chemist use, but today have a number of popular glassware ranges, tableware ranges and giftware ranges. Some of the most popular glassware by Iittala was designed by Alvar Aalto, such as the famous vase he created which was said to mimic the Finnish coastline. Aino Aalto also designed a range of contemporary everyday glassware which is still in production and very popular today. Iittals’s popular tableware ranges include the colourful Teema and Taika lines, and the glass Toikka Birds beautifully designed by Oiva Toikka are some of Iittala’s most popular giftware items. China Chaps now sell all current Iittala ranges in our Snodland store.
