Dartington Crystal

Dartington Crystal is one of the U.K.’s leading manufacturers of crystal glassware. Dartington Crystal was founded in 1967 by the Dartington Hall Trust, a charity set up to assist the economic regeneration of rural areas through enterprise and education. A group of Swedish glassmakers were brought in to lend their skills to the Torrington, North Devon factory where Dartington Crystal is still based today. While other companies focused on more old-fashioned crystal designs, Dartington Crystal’s Scandinavian influenced designs by Frank Thrower gave the company a more modern and contemporary image.  The Sharon, Exmoor and Dimple ranges, all designed by Thrower, were first produced in the late 1960’s, but still prove to be some of Dartington Crystal’s most popular lines.

This decade, new lines such as Armchair Spirits and Special Reserve, and a new giftware range, Adore,  have ensured that Dartington Crystal will remain as popular as ever. China Chaps now sell all of the current Dartington Crystal glassware and giftware ranges in our Snodland store.
